Valve has released a new Steam Client update, which includes multiple important fixes and improvements for the newly launched Steam Controller.

The Steam Controller was released only a few days ago on May 4, and Valve is now rolling out updates to address issues users have been reporting since launch. And the latest Steam Client update, which was released today, includes several important fixes and improvements focused directly on the new controller.

What does the update offer?

Valve says it fixed an issue where configuration selections for the new Steam Controller could sometimes fail to save properly. This was frustrating for users trying to customize controls for different games. The update also resolves compatibility problems that appeared when the Steam Controller was docked to the charging puck, as some games reportedly had issues detecting or properly working with the controller while it was connected.

Valve has also fixed a bug affecting certain left trackpads, where touches on the left side of the pad were not always registering correctly during wireless use. Since the trackpads are one of the main features of the Steam Controller, this is an important fix for affected users.

Another addition is new Grip Sensor settings. Users can now access these through Steam settings under Controller > Details > Calibration & Advanced Settings > Grip Sensors. This should give players more control over how the controller’s grip-based features behave.

Outside of the controller-specific fixes, the update also brings a few general improvements to the Steam Client itself, which can be seen in the full patch notes below.

General

  • Fixed a case where the Steam Controller firmware update dialog could reopen after a successful update
  • Fixed streamable games showing when "Ready to Play should include Streamable games" is toggled off
  • Fixed occasional cursor corruption while streaming on Windows
  • Added setting to enable or disable controller battery notifications.
