In a recent Top Gear interview, Lamborghini's chief technical officer stated that extreme acceleration is not a priority for the company's future electric offerings, and will instead focus on providing driving enthusiasts with an experience that surpasses what any ICE can offer, thanks to qualities innate to EVs such as instant torque paired with Lamborghini's precision steering.

While it might be true that electric vehicles prioritize economy and environmental friendliness, it goes without saying that they sure can offer a visceral and untamed driving experience with instant acceleration unlike any other. This includes even daily driveable cars such as Tesla's Model S 'Plaid' and Lucid's Air 'Sapphire' trims. Nevertheless, in a recent Top Gear interview with Lamborghini's CTO Rouven Mohr, the executive claimed that the venerable supercar manufacturer's future electric offerings will not be focusing on acceleration alone, but rather on the maneuverability and driving emotion that the raging bull is known for.

For measure, Lamborghini's fastest accelerating car to date, the Veneno, which was introduced in 2013, had a 0-62 mph time of just 2.5 seconds thanks to its 6.5 L naturally aspirated V12. While impressive, it lacks in comparison to the fastest EVs in the market, such as the Lucid Air's 'Sapphire' trim which has a claimed 0-62 time of under 1.9 seconds. The road-legal Aspark Owl takes this number even lower to a jaw-dropping 1.7 seconds, a number that ICEs just can't quite keep up with.

However, Lamborghini's Rouven Mohr claims that the company aims to offer much more than just straight-line acceleration, but rather a driving experience that keeps up with the company's heritage and what it stands for - providing driving enthusiasts with what 'they want to have'. Noting that there is a delay in time before ICEs can deliver power to the wheels while EVs have instant torque, he claims that future cars from the renowned company, along with precision steering, will allow future Lamborghinis to perform maneuvers that weren't previously possible.

Whether driving enthusiasts like it or not, ICE cars have an expiration date. The whole industry has been hard at work making the shift to electric, and supercars won't be an exception. However, for true petrol-heads, this interview with Lamborghini's CTO should be enough for them to believe that even though they might have to bid farewell to the loud and visceral V12s, what makes a Lamborghini, a Lamborghini, is here to stay.
