Bathroom specialist Kohler introduces an unusual health gadget called Dekoda, which mounts directly to the toilet and uses a camera to analyze stool. Dekoda can detect blood in the stool and warn users, but it’s also intended to collect other data points that can contribute to a healthier life.
For example, Kohler Dekoda recognizes the fluid content in the stool, and the accompanying smartphone app can assess whether the user is drinking enough water. This smart camera also evaluates the frequency, consistency and shape of bowel movements to draw conclusions about gut health and provide personalized recommendations for a healthier lifestyle. Even minor changes in bowel movements should provide informative data that the app can automatically evaluate.
Kohler Dekoda supports multiple users and the manufacturer offers an optional remote control with a fingerprint sensor. Simply placing a finger on this sensor is enough to activate tracking and synchronize data with the corresponding user profile. Kohler Dekoda communicates with smartphones via WiFi 5. The sensor has an integrated battery and does not need a power cable, the battery can be easily removed for charging via USB-C. Dekoda is compatible with all toilets with a rim thickness between 1.26 and 2.28 inches.
