Grand Seiko's new limited-edition watch launches with 9R65 Spring Drive caliber

Grand Seiko has introduced a new limited-edition Spring Drive model, the SBGA519. It is designed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Wako-exclusive watches in Japan. The release is limited to 100 pieces and will go on sale on June 4 through the Wako main store in Ginza.
The SBGA519 takes heavy inspiration from the original Wako-exclusive Grand Seiko released in 2005. It brings back an ivory-colored dial paired with gold accents around the dial and seconds hand. Compared to many recent textured Grand Seiko releases, the approach here is more simple. There's a subtle color contrast rather than heavy, dense patterns.
The watch uses the familiar 44GS-inspired case design in stainless steel, measuring 40 mm across and 12.5 mm thick. It runs on Grand Seiko’s 9R65 Spring Drive caliber, which combines mechanical power with quartz-regulated accuracy. The movement offers a 72-hour power reserve and a stated monthly accuracy of ±15 seconds, equivalent to roughly ±1 second per day.
A power reserve indicator remains on the dial at around 8 o’clock, while the date window sits at 3 o’clock. The watch is delivered on a stainless steel bracelet but also includes an additional navy blue crocodile leather strap with a beige underside.
According to the Japanese listing, the design theme is centered around "The Beauty of Wako." The softer ivory dial and gold detailing are meant to reference traditional Japanese style rather than modern styling.
Pricing is set at ¥869,000 (around $5,600 at current conversion rates). Reservations begin May 8 at the Wako flagship boutique in Ginza, though sales are limited to in-store reservations only. Grand Seiko also adds that each buyer is limited to one piece, and full payment is required at reservation.
