Google is rolling out a fix for an excessive battery drain issue reported across supported Pixel Watch models, though it has not identified the responsible app or explained the cause. Affected users should manually check for app updates in the watch’s Play Store.

Google has begun delivering a fix for a battery drain problem that has plagued Pixel Watch owners over the past week. Having previously acknowledged the issue to Reddit users, the company has informed Android Authority that the rollout is underway and should wrap up soon. Complaints covered every supported model, from the Pixel Watch 2 to the Pixel Watch 5, with some wearers seeing runtimes sink to about 12 hours despite light use.

Google describes the problem as affecting only a small number of users, yet reports spanning several watch generations call this claim into question. Another point of criticism is that Google has not identified the app responsible for the excessive battery drain or explained precisely what is causing the issue. Resolving the symptom while withholding the cause hardly inspires confidence.

Affected owners are required to manually check for the fix by pressing the crown, opening the Play Store, choosing Manage apps and tapping Update all. Since the rollout is staggered, the necessary updates might not appear immediately, meaning users may need to check again over the coming days.
