GoPro launches the Light Mod for the HERO8 Black
Action-cameras such as those made by GoPro are a great idea, until you realise they may need additional equipment such as light sources to get footage as desired. These objects typically can't fit into the tiny form-factor that gives this electronics category its unique selling point (well, partially, at least). Therefore, GoPro has launched the Light Mod, a tiny box housing LEDs for when you need light while involved in an outdoorsy pursuit.
The Light Mod is intended to be as easy and intuitive for those already firmly in the GoPro ecosystem to use. Accordingly, it is compatible with pre-existing mounts made by this company, which are found on wearable accessories such as the Magnetic Swivel Clip, Head Strap and Handler unipodal camera stick.
It has also been designed to be part of a modular system with the recently-released HERO8 Black at the center. However, a Light Mod owner might need a GoPro Media Mod beforehand. This is a kind of rugged case for the action-cam, although it also incorporates a 3.5mm microphone port and 2 mount-like cold shoes.
The Light Mod can thus fit onto the HERO8 Black, which it could also do alongside the Display Mod, a 1.9-inch screen that allows a view of the recording in progress (in the way some DSLRs do out of the box). The Light Mod goes for US$49.99 on the GoPro website, whereas a Media Mod currently costs $79.99, as does a Display Mod.
