Garmin releases new stable update to Fenix 7 smartwatches to combat system shutdown bugs
The release of the stable 17.x builds for the Enduro 2, Epix 2, Fenix 7, Marq 2 and Quatix 7 (curr. $596.89 on Amazon) has been a rather rocky one. Initially, the company issued the update package as Software Version 17.20 with dozens of changes from the earlier Software Version 16.22. However, various bugs appeared to force the company to pause the update's rollout, albeit without officially announcing it had done so.
Subsequently, it then publicly beta-tested v17.22 and v17.23, which principally contained one major bug fix each. Now, it has confirmed within its beta forums that it has converted v17.23 to a stable build, which it is rolling out as Software Version 17.23. Incidentally, the company has expunged Software Version 17.20 entirely from its stable software list. In fact, the link to Software Version 17.20 redirects to the link pointing to Software Version 17.23 instead.
Moreover, Software Version 17.23 officially has the same changelog as Garmin's previous stable build. Presumably, Software Version 17.23 ships with the two bug fixes that Garmin publicly beta-tested, which we have reproduced below. Software Version 17.23 should be available to download now across all Enduro 2, Epix 2, Fenix 7, Marq 2 and Quatix 7 smartwatches, including Pro editions.
- Fixed potential shutdown after software update.
- Fixed issue that could cause potential shutdown when starting an activity.
