Garmin releases new software update for mid-range smartwatch after fixing system breaking bug
Garmin continues to roll out new updates to most of its current products at a steady rate, including the Fenix 7. The same cannot be said for the Venu Sq 2 (curr. $244.99 on Amazon) though, which rarely gains new firmware even when Garmin introduces system-breaking bugs. To that end, it took until the end of last month for Garmin to acknowledge that it had broken app and watch face installations through an update it distributed two months earlier.
Seemingly, the company has now resolved the issue, albeit without providing too many details about the underlying problem that caused it. Buried within page 15 of a forum post titled 'Unable to download any app on Garmin venu sq2 music edition' sits a comment from a Garmin representative that reads as follows:
All,
Our engineers fixed an error on the backend last night. This should now be resolved. If you continue to experience this disruption, please let me know.
Shortly afterwards, the company released Software Version 2.66, which upgrades the Venu Sq 2 from the offending Software Version 2.64. According to Garmin's forum post, Software Version 2.66 only improves system stability and adds undisclosed 'improvements to Connect IQ'. Moreover, the update contains new Sensor Hub, Mobile Translations and Text Languages firmwares. Allegedly, the new update should have now reached all Venu Sq 2 units. However, Software Version 2.66 can be downloaded through Garmin Express and Garmin Connect Mobile (GCM) should your smartwatch be stuck on an earlier build.
