Galaxy Z Fold 9 leak suggests multiple models, as Samsung decides between two combinations

With the success of the passport-style Galaxy Z Fold 8 ($1,900 on Amazon), Samsung is exploring multiple options for its successor. That’s according to a credible leaker citing a source in the display supply chain. The next compact foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 9, could be accompanied by another offering, giving buyers even more options for foldables.
Leaker Lanzuk shared over on the Naver blog that Samsung is currently deciding which direction to go with its Galaxy Z Fold 9. While a successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is pretty much guaranteed, there could be another phone that launches alongside it. Per the leaker, Samsung is considering two options: either a ‘Plus’-sized model or an ‘FE’ model.
The Galaxy Z Fold 9 Plus, a tentative moniker, is said to come with a larger display. That means both the outer and inner displays will be a bit bigger, which could negatively impact ergonomics. While the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is quite compact compared to the Ultra, its 5.5-inch 16:10 aspect ratio cover display is just the right size for one-handed use for most people.
As for the second option, the Galaxy Z Fold 9 FE could follow the trend and cut down some of the specifications while retaining the same form factor. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at $1,900, and the FE variant could bring the price down.
The leaker adds that Samsung has not yet decided which route it will go down, but it won’t do both. Still, it would be interesting to have two options in the compact foldable form factor.
