Free open-world RPG with Skyrim vibes opens to all PC gamers this week

Following four years of development, Digital Extremes' ambitious fantasy RPG Soulframe is finally opening its doors to all PC gamers. The developer, best known for Warframe, has confirmed that its first public alpha playtest, Open Preludes, will begin on November 6.
Unlike previous testing phases, which required an invitation code or purchase of a Founder's Pack, this latest opportunity requires no application or special access. However, players should remember that this remains an unfinished alpha build rather than a full release. Players who enjoyed Elden Ring, The Elder Scrolls or The Witcher may also enjoy Soulframe.
Drawing inspiration from Princess Mononoke and The NeverEnding Story, Soulframe takes place on Midrath, an island invaded by an industrial empire exploiting its natural resources. Players assume the role of an Envoy, an ancient warrior tasked with reconnecting with spirits and fighting back against the invaders. Gameplay combines exploration, challenging combat, story-driven quests, crafting and animal rescues, giving it some similarities to the aforementioned fantasy RPGs.
The expanded alpha also introduces several additions, including environmental progression through Veilands, a recruitable Omen Wolf mount, a new character pact and a headless horseman miniboss called Veltruska. Digital Extremes has yet to announce an end date for the public testing period.
