Free Bosch update brings enhanced control and comfort to e-bikes

Despite fierce competition from rivals producing increasingly powerful mid-drive motors, Bosch remains a dominant force among e-bike manufacturers. Beyond hardware, the company also relies on a comprehensive software ecosystem that receives regular over-the-air updates. The newly released eBike Flow app version 1.38 introduces notable upgrades, though owners of older mid-drive units miss out—features like traction control, for instance, are unavailable on Active Line motors.
With update 1.38, riders can now fine-tune the traction control system, which functions similarly to its automotive counterpart by preventing the rear wheel from spinning. The feature can be disabled entirely or adjusted across three intervention levels, making it particularly useful on loose terrain or slick roads.
Another major addition is the Drivetrain Tensioner, designed to enhance riding comfort by preloading the drivetrain. This reduces or eliminates pedal free play—the initial dead zone before power transfers to the rear wheel. While immediate pedal response may require a brief adjustment period, riders can customize or toggle this preload independently for each riding mode.
Additionally, sporty riders can track tricks like wheelies using the updated Trick Check feature. Finally, all displays except the entry-level Intuvia 100 will now show the estimated remaining charging time while plugged in.
