Flashback One75 retro compact camera forgoes a display

At first glance, the Flashback One75 looks almost like an analog camera, as it lacks a display on the back, while the combination of a silver aluminum body and black faux leather was clearly inspired by cameras from the 1950s and 1960s. Only the small OLED display on top, used to select filters and adjust settings, reveals that the Flashback One75 is digital.
The camera promises a tactile user experience with a brass control dial and shutter button. Taking inspiration from half-frame cameras, both the sensor and the optical viewfinder are oriented vertically – just like on the Fujifilm X-half ($449 on Amazon). However, image quality is likely to be significantly worse than on the more expensive Fuji camera, as Flashback uses a 13-megapixel sensor but provides no details about either the sensor size or the lens used. At least a xenon flash is included.
Rather than relying on sheer image quality, the Flashback One75 aims to impress with an unusual user experience. The camera only ever takes 27 photos at a time. Once this "roll of film" is full, the photos must be transferred to a smartphone via the companion app. The app only supports JPEG files, if DNG RAW files are captured, they must instead be transferred to a PC or Mac via a USB-C cable.
Pricing and availability
The Flashback One75 compact camera is now available to preorder for $179 from the manufacturer's online store with delivery expected before Christmas.
