Dockcase has launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the Studio, a new 8-in-1 USB-C Hub. The company suggests that its accessory could be handy for photographers, offering two card slots seen infrequently on USB-C hubs. Other features include a touch display and support for a 4K monitor.

The Dockcase Studio Smart USB-C Hub 8-in-1 is currently crowdfunding at Kickstarter. With 23 days to go, the campaign had over 250 backers, raising almost HK$350,000 and surpassing the HK$39,000 funding goal. The company describes the accessory as a cross between a smart hub and a card reader, particularly useful for photographers, videographers and other creatives.

The Dockcase Studio includes CFexpress Type A and Type B card slots with 8 Gbps and 10 Gbps data transfer speeds, respectively. The company suggests these are rarely provided in this sort of accessory. There are other high-speed file transfer options thanks to UHS-II compatible SD and TF card slots, alongside 10Gbps USB-C and USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports. The host device gets pass-through charging via the PD 100W input, and you can connect a 4K@120Hz or 8K@30Hz display using HDMI. A 1.9-inch LCD with a 320 x 170 px resolution on the top of the device offers touch controls, with the accessory measuring 97.8 x 55 x 17.8 mm (~3.9 x 2.2 x 0.7 inches) and weighing 118g (~4.2 oz). The product is said to be compatible with various devices running Windows, macOS, iPadOS, Android, Linux and Harmony operating systems.

You can make an Early Bird pledge of HK$1,245/$159 to the Dockcase Studio’s Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. The company describes this as a 20% discount on the HK$1,555/$199 MSRP. According to the project page, delivery is estimated for August 2024. However, it is worth noting that Dockcase only ships to certain countries, such as the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands. Plus, as with all crowdfunding campaigns, there is no guarantee that the product will ship to backers. It remains to be seen whether or when the product could land on Amazon, where the company sells other accessories like the DockCase Explorer Edition USB-C Hub (10-in-1) for $129.99.
