CD Projekt Red may still be working on adding content to Cyberpunk 2077 in the form of another expansion. The Phantom Liberty expansion was released in September 2023 and at the time, it was believed to be the only one.

CD Projekt Red has its hands full with the next Witcher game, as well as Cyberpunk 2 which recently entered pre-production. But it looks like the studio is not done with Cyberpunk 2077 just yet. Rumors suggesting a new expansion for the 2020 title have surfaced online, considering there has been only one expansion for the game since release and that Cyberpunk 2 has a long road ahead.

The spark for the rumor came from Reddit user ‘Free_Carpenter151’ who spotted a LinkedIn profile of a Virtuos writer who listed “Cyberpunk 2077 DLC” as the project they were working on since April 2025. Virtuos is the studio that developed the 2.2 update for Cyberpunk 2077. The description for the project talked about “multiple new side quests” and “upcoming DLC releases,” thereby suggesting that a new expansion is underway.

Furthermore, On March 27, the official Cyberpunk 2077 account on X shared a short video showing some of the characters from the game, along with six hidden ones listed as “encrypted data.” The post read, “Oh, and don’t worry about the encrypted data warning. Just a glitch in the system! Or is it?”

Cyberpunk 2077 received its first and only expansion, Phantom Liberty, in September 2023. Before that, after its original announcement in September 2022, the Level Design Lead at CD Projekt Red teased a possible second expansion. However, at the time, it was believed that the second expansion was canceled in favor of the sequel. Fans doubt that these signs point towards a possible second expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 and that the support studio working on a DLC could mean a lot of things, not necessarily a full expansion.

The studio recently shared a tech demo for Witcher 4 showing of some of the technologies they will be using in the game. They also stated last week (May 28) that Cyberpunk 2 has entered pre-production. CD Projekt Red teams are working diligently on these two major titles, as well as a possible sequel to the Edgerunners anime and a live action project in the Cyberpunk universe.
