Compact PocketBook Verta e-reader packs color touchscreen into IPX4-rated body

The popular PocketBook Verse e-reader ($139 on Amazon) is getting two successors, the PocketBook Verta and the PocketBook Verta Color. The two models differ primarily in their displays. The more affordable Verta uses a 6-inch E Ink Carta 1300 display with a resolution of 1,448 x 1,072 pixels at a pixel density of 300 PPI, which can only display 16 shades of gray.
The Verta Color instead uses an E Ink Kaleido 3 panel that can also display 4,096 colors, although the resolution drops from 300 PPI to just 150 PPI when displaying color – typical for E Ink panels. Both displays feature front lighting and touchscreens, with additional buttons below the display for turning pages. Measuring 154 x 107.5 x 7 millimeters and weighing 140 grams, the e-readers are relatively compact.
The casing is IPX4-certified and should therefore withstand rain and splashes of water. A 1,500 mAh battery is expected to provide up to two months of battery life, depending on usage. 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of flash storage, a USB-C port for charging, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi complete the package. The Linux-based PocketBook OS supports 25 e-book formats.
Pricing and availability
The PocketBook Verta series is expected to launch in November 2026. The model with a grayscale display costs €169 ($189), while the manufacturer has priced the Verta Color at €179 ($199).
