ChatGPT Voice: GPT-Live-1.1 brings new voices for six languages

OpenAI is releasing a new model for ChatGPT’s voice mode. According to the official release notes from October 15, the company has started distributing GPT-Live-1.1 along with GPT-Live-1.1 Quip, a smaller version of the model. OpenAI is releasing the update gradually, so an account that still shows the old voices only has to wait.
New voices for six languages
The most visible change is the expanded voice lineup. German speakers get Sonna and Miko, and there are new options for French, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Mexican Spanish as well. English gains a voice called Bubbie. You can switch voices under Settings and then Voice. OpenAI notes that "the voices you see may vary by region and account." Until now, the voice mode offered nine standard voices such as Arbor, Breeze and Cove, all of them English sounding.
Accents across all languages are supposed to sound more natural with the update. Searching changes a little, too, since Live now uses a wider range of short phrases to signal that it is searching.
Your plan decides which model answers
The plan also decides which model you talk to and for how long. Free users get limited access to the lighter Quip model, and OpenAI does not name a fixed number of hours for them. The Go plan includes three hours with Quip in a 24-hour window, and Plus subscribers get the same three hours with the full GPT-Live-1.1. The $100 Pro plan raises the cap to 15 hours, and the $200 tier removes it entirely, leaving only guardrails against abuse. All of these quotas refer to a rolling 24-hour window. These numbers come from the voice FAQ as of October 16, and the documents do not say whether the update changed any of them.
The voice mode keeps getting rebuilt
The new model is part of a longer string of upgrades. In late September, OpenAI gave the voice mode access to apps such as calendars and reminders, with messages only sent after a manual tap. After the app integrations, the underlying model is getting its update now.
If you want to try the new voices, update the app and open Settings, then Voice. When nothing new shows up there, your account has not been switched over yet. OpenAI has not named a date for the end of the rollout.
