ChatGPT Free and Go users start getting GPT-6 Luna in Chat

Two weeks ago, ChatGPT Free got GPT-6 Luna, but only in the desktop app. OpenAI is now bringing the model to the regular Chat tab. According to the ChatGPT release notes from October 7, the rollout to Free and Go users begins on October 8, one day after the paid plans. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise get GPT-6 Sol in Chat, while the two cheaper plans get GPT-6 Luna, the lowest-cost model in the new lineup. OpenAI describes the rollout as global. It does not say when a given account will see it.
Answers with diagrams, buttons and small calculators
GPT-6 arrives with a new presentation layer that OpenAI calls Intelligent UI. Answers can combine text, visuals and interactive elements, from side-by-side comparisons and diagrams to tools you can use directly in the conversation. OpenAI's examples include calculators, a bill splitter and simple games. ChatGPT picks the format on its own and still uses plain text when that works better, so no special prompt is needed. GPT-6 can also start answering while it is still thinking or using tools, then add more findings without another prompt.
Older desktop apps are left out
According to OpenAI's help page on GPT-6 and other models, the older ChatGPT desktop apps for Windows and macOS do not support Intelligent UI, and OpenAI recommends the web version instead. On phones, you need the latest app version. Intelligent UI has no separate usage quota. The usual limits of your plan still apply.
How to reduce the visuals
If you prefer plain text, open Settings in ChatGPT on the web and turn off Layout and visuals. Some visual elements may still appear, because OpenAI says the setting does not switch ChatGPT to a text-only mode. Android Authority notes that you can also ask ChatGPT to show fewer visuals.
The help page still lists GPT-5.6 Luna
OpenAI's own documentation is not consistent yet. The help page on models still names GPT-5.6 Luna as the default for Free and Go, including for the Think option, while the release notes specifically mention GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI says that "if you don't see GPT-6 in the model menu, it may not be available for your account yet." Plus subscribers went through a similar staged rollout. On Plus, GPT-6 Astra is still limited to Work and Codex. Our comparison of free AI plans covers the other limits.
