Call of Duty: Warzone officially shut down for good on previous gen consoles

Call of Duty: Warzone has officially gone offline on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, marking the end of the free-to-play battle royale's support for last-gen consoles. Activision confirmed the move earlier this year, giving players several months to prepare for the shutdown. The first changes arrived on June 4, when the game was removed from both platforms' digital storefronts, preventing new downloads. Purchases using real money were also discontinued, followed by the complete removal of the in-game store on June 25.
The final shutdown coincides with the arrival of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 on November 6. Players upgrading to current-gen consoles won't necessarily lose everything, however. Their progression and content purchased using COD Points can carry over through a linked Activision account. Unspent COD Points are subject to platform restrictions, though, meaning balances can transfer between consoles belonging to the same family but not necessarily between PlayStation and Xbox.
Importantly, this doesn't mean Warzone itself is disappearing. The battle royale remains available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with its latest integration bringing new content and gameplay changes.
