Bold Xperia 1 IV rumor claims quad 48 MP camera system is coming for Sony's future flagship
An alleged leak in regard to the future Sony Xperia 1 IV phone has turned up on the Chinese social media site Weibo. As reported by Japanese media site Sumaho Digest, the original poster has seemingly detailed the camera equipment for the Mark 4 variant of the Xperia 1, which could be released at some point in 2022. There have already been some supposed leaks concerning the Xperia 1 IV’s camera equipment, but nothing quite this detailed…or surprising when you consider the difference between it and the camera system of this year’s Xperia 1 III.
It has already been reported that the Xperia 1 IV might feature a camera system headed by a 50 MP sensor, with another report claiming that Sony would look to its own stores for supply rather than relying on parts from rivals such as Samsung. The current rumor also goes for a 50 MP lens but states that particular camera will be cropped to 48 MP (1.0 um pixel size). What is more amazing about this post on Weibo is that apparently the Sony Xperia 1 IV will get four 48 MP cameras, which would be a huge change from the triple-cam wielding Xperia 1 III if true. It’s definitely time for a pinch of salt here.
The apparent specs go: 48 MP 1.12 um, 50 MP 1.0 um (48 MP Crop), 48 MP 0.9 um (New), 48 MP 0.8 um. It’s quite the claim, as not only does it insist that the Mark 4 Sony Xperia 1 will have a quad-cam setup, but it also says that the MP figures will rise incredibly from those of the 2020 Xperia 1 model. While MP numbers are generally dismissed for the most part by those interested in serious photography who focus more on the software, pixel size, and lens manufacturer, it would be stand-out marketing for Sony with the average consumer who will see a 48 MP + 48 MP + 48 MP + 48 MP setup as an enormous upgrade over the current 12 MP + 12 MP + 12MP module.
