Bigme is launching a new version of one of its most popular E Ink monitors, giving the display an upgrade to a 60 Hz refresh rate and the ability to stream content wirelessly to the energy-efficient monitor.

A year and a half after the launch of the Bigme B13 ($729 on Amazon), the manufacturer is introducing a Pro model with one particularly significant upgrade – the refresh rate is doubled from 30 Hz to 60 Hz. This makes the Bigme B13 Pro one of the fastest E-Ink monitors on the market.

Bigme uses an E Ink Kaleido 3 panel that can display 16 shades of gray and 4,096 colors. As is typical for E-Ink, power consumption is relatively low at a maximum of 15 watts, and the monitor can receive both data and power simultaneously via a USB-C cable. Alternatively, power can be supplied via USB-C while data is transmitted via Mini HDMI. Wireless streaming to the monitor is also possible.

The 13.3-inch monitor has a 4:3 aspect ratio and a resolution of 3,200 x 2,400 pixels at a pixel density of 300 PPI. When displaying colors, however, the resolution drops to 1,600 x 1,200 pixels at 150 PPI. While E Ink cannot display animations quite as smoothly as a conventional LCD even at a higher refresh rate, the reflective panel promises perfect readability in sunlight.

The 5.6-millimeter-thick, 660-gram screen is compatible not only with Windows and macOS, but also with Android and iOS. The screen can either be propped up using a case or attached to a laptop display, making it easier to create dual- or triple-monitor setups on the go.

Pricing and availability

The Bigme B13 Pro can be preordered from the manufacturer's online store for $569 plus import fees and shipping.
