The ASUS ROG GM501 Zephyrus M follows in the footsteps of the GX501. While the older model was definitely priced at a premium owing to its extreme slimness and hardware portfolio, the GM501 isn’t the same. With an aim to make the GX501 more affordable, ASUS did play around with the configuration and change a couple of things. However, a few things have changed over the year since the Zephyrus came out. By incorporating those changes, the GM501 hardly feels like a compromise. There’s competition from other brands in this segment and it’s hard to overlook ASUS’s decision to ship a single RAM module in the Zephyrus M. Most users will not notice the difference in performance, however, when you’re catering to the enthusiast gamer, these things do matter. When you compare the MSI GS65 with the GM501, it ends up being a bit more appealing because of the slightly lower price.

Asus ROG Zephyrus M GM501 Review – Six-core Intel cpu? Check. Nvidia GTX 1070 graphics? Affirmative. IPS panel with 144Hz refresh and G-Sync support? Sir, yes, sir. On paper, Asus’s latest ROG gaming laptop, the Zephyrus M, has all the makings of a high-frame-rate portable powerhouse. But like any laptop, what matters is the detailed implementation. Much more than desktops, integration and engineering make all the difference if you’re going to squeeze the maximum out of any given component in a laptop.

The ROG Zephyrus M’s recycled design isn’t as unique as its predecessor’s was at the time, but the gains in performance here leave it a formidable option for gamers nonetheless. It’s still one of the slimmest gaming laptops out there, not to mention one of the best-performing ones. There’s still room for improvement - but the Zephyrus M offers an upgrade where it counts most.

That pretty much does it for this quick look at the Asus Republic of Gamers Zephyrus M gaming notebook, otherwise known as the GM501. The notebook we got to tinker with a short amount of time has been priced at Php 149,995 though there is a configuration that comes with a GTX 1060 and a slight bump down in SSD storage for Php 119,995. You should be able to check out this sexy gaming notebook at select Asus and Republic of Gamers Concept Stores very soon. If you are in the market for a high-end mobile gaming machine, definitely check this one out.

Overall, the gaming laptop from Asus is equipped with some top-of-the-line features and hardware. The body is quite sturdy and the 144Hz refresh rate makes it a delightful experience to play games at high frame rates. You will not get disappointed with the performance of this gaming laptop, though might worry about the battery backup. That said, if you are looking for a serious gaming machine and there is no price constraint then this laptop can be considered as an option for you.

So £2000 is clearly quite a lot of money to spend on a laptop. Consider, however, what you are getting with the GM501GS. Not only are you getting Intel’s latest 8th-generation processor, but you’re also provided with a Nvidia 1070 graphics card. On top of all that as well you’re getting a fantastic hard drive system and what is perhaps the best-looking laptop currently available on the market. I really can’t stress enough just how fantastic this laptop is on every level. It’s just a slight disappointment that when unplugged, it does seem to gobble up the battery life really rapidly.

The Zephyrus M may be faster than an equivalent Max-Q notebook, but I don't think it's fast enough to make up for its lack in mobility. It doesn't seem to have made up its mind as to what it wants to be. It's slim, but it's also quite large and heavy, so it's not really pushing its advantage in this area either. Furthermore, the 55Wh battery doesn't seem enough for the laptop, and battery life is pretty poor.

However, if you are keen on a slightly cheaper laptop, the Acer Helios 300 equipped with the Intel Core i7 chipset which is priced at RM5199 is definitely worth considering since it comes equipped with almost the same specs. But other than that, I could not find anything that is a concern to me.
