Apple iPhone gets xenon flash with MagSafe and color filters

One of the biggest disadvantages of smartphones compared to dedicated compact cameras is the flash. While smartphones generally use an LED, compact cameras usually rely on a much more powerful xenon flash that provides enough light even in daylight to fill in shadows, creating a very different look.
The Godox A2 now adds a xenon flash to the Apple iPhone. The round flash attaches magnetically to the back of the Apple iPhone via MagSafe, but since data is transmitted over Bluetooth, the flash can also be used wirelessly and positioned at any desired angle. Once the flash is switched on and paired with the smartphone, the dedicated Godox camera app must be used, which can synchronize the flash at shutter speeds of up to 1/8,000s.
The app supports both automatic exposure and a manual mode that allows both the shutter speed and flash output to be adjusted. The flash has a built-in 3-watt LED, allowing it to double as a video light. Godox advertises a battery life of 400 flashes or one hour of LED light, both at maximum power, with charging via USB-C. The 93-gram flash can be expanded with a range of magnetic accessories to adjust the look using a diffuser, grid or color filters, for example.
Pricing and availability
The Godox A2 xenon flash for smartphones is now available for around $85 at Amazon. More details about the flash can be found on the Godox website. The flash is currently compatible only with the Apple iPhone, specifically all models from the iPhone 15 onward, including the iPhone 16e and iPhone Air.
