The Apple iPhone 18 was not unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 Pro (Max), as has been customary for Apple until now. Instead, rumors point to a launch in spring 2027. However, the wait may hardly be worthwhile, as the latest information from the highly reliable leaker Digital Chat Station suggests.
The leaker reiterates earlier rumors, according to which Apple is expected to use a 6.3-inch OLED display with Dynamic Island and a 120 Hz refresh rate, just as it did with the iPhone 17. Like the iPhone 17, the iPhone 18 reportedly features two 48-megapixel cameras and supports Face ID. However, the smartphone is expected to receive at least two upgrades. First, the 3 nm Apple A19 is set to be replaced by a new 2 nm Apple A20 ARM chip. This SoC should give the iPhone 18 not only better performance but also longer battery life.
Especially in combination with the second expected upgrade, as the iPhone 18 is said to be getting a larger battery. The bar is low, however, as the iPhone 17 is equipped with a tiny 3,692 mAh battery, while the similarly sized but slightly thicker iPhone 18 Pro offers a battery with a capacity of 4,056 mAh in Europe or 4,288 mAh in the US. Unwelcome, but hardly surprising: The Apple iPhone 18 is expected to become more expensive. This would be the second price increase for the base iPhone model since the start of the DRAM crisis, after Apple already raised the price of the iPhone 17 with 256 GB of storage from $799 to $899.
