The release of the Anbernic RG Cube is almost upon us following a month of teasers. To recap, Anbernic has already confirmed all key device specifications, which drew performance comparisons between it and the recent RG556. Specifically, the company equips the RG Cube with a Unisoc Tiger T820 chipset, 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.2 flash storage with a 153 x 86 x 18 mm and 260 g housing.
According to Retro Game Corps, this combination makes the RG Cube powerful enough to emulate GameCube games at 2x their native resolution. Alternatively, the device is also said to be capable of playing PS2 games at 1.5x native resolution across its 3.95-inch and 720 x 720-pixel IPS display. Unsurprisingly, the same YouTuber adds that the RG Cube is a worthy replacement for the Powkiddy RGB30 (curr. $95.99 on Amazon), another 1:1 gaming handheld.
With that being said, the RG Cube is considerably more expensive than the Powkiddy RGB30. At launch, the RG Cube will start at $159.99 in grey, black, beige white and radiant purple finishes down from a $169.99 MSRP. Please note that this price does not include a MicroSD. Alternatively, the device will be available initially with 128 GB and 256 GB MicroSD cards for $174.99 and $189.99, respectively. Anbernic will begin selling the RG Cube on June 8 at 10:00 UTC.
