With some Switch 2 games creating a storage dilemma, help is on the way. Suneast is marketing a 2TB MicroSD Express card without a release date or price. Amid the memory shortage, 1TB cards already cost Nintendo supporters over $300.

2TB MicroSD Express cards aren’t anticipated until mid-2027 or later, but one manufacturer is advertising a solution now. A Suneast promotion targets dwindling Switch 2 storage. While it will likely release at an intimidating price, the accessory can hold up to 160 games.

Too soon for 2TB?

Redditor Icalivy discovered the banner when considering the currently available $299.99 1TB SKU on Amazon. Suneast has not officially announced a beefier alternative, though it may arrive sooner than expected. According to the company, Nintendo handheld owners should have space for at least 128 titles.

In reality, 30-40 GB is a more typical size for a Switch 2 game, which would let buyers install 45-60 candidates. Still, it’s a dramatic improvement on the system’s 256GB internal storage. With how large some AAA releases have become, demand for a 2TB MicroSD Express card is inevitable.

When Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches in April 2027, the remake trilogy alone threatens to consume over 300GB. That has pushed gamers assembling growing libraries to pursue expandable 512GB or 1TB options. Brands including Suneast, Lexar, and SanDisk stretch budgets by charging in excess of $130 and $300, respectively.

Why storage prices are so high

For a 2TB MicroSD Express card, Redditors made frightening predictions. One estimate is $500, but other posters think that’s optimistic given the AI-driven rush for NAND flash. Memory manufacturers are prioritizing high-capacity enterprise SSDs for data centers. Meanwhile, the supply of consumer-grade products has suffered, driving up costs.

If Suneast’s 2TB MicroSD Express model emerges late in 2027, it could benefit buyers. TrendForce believes prices will ease as the year progresses and supply stabilizes. Nevertheless, the Switch 2 storage add-on may still demand a greater investment than the console itself.

Another scenario is a Switch 2 Pro offering more storage. However, since Nintendo just raised the existing handheld's MSRP, it may delay rumored OLED or Lite revisions. The component and memory shortage had already driven price hikes for Xbox and PS5 rivals.
