Ubiquiti introduces Dream Machine UDM Pro Max with Shadow Mode

Ubiquiti has announced a new Dream Machine for larger network installations. The Unifi Dream Machine Pro Max (UDM Pro Max) is the first device that Ubiquiti has listed under the "Large Scale" category on its website. Compared to the Dream Machine Pro and the Special Edition, Ubiquiti has doubled the performance in many areas.

More than 200 Unifi devices can now be controlled by the Pro Max, which is enough to manage more than 2000 clients. In addition, there are now two bays for 3.5-inch data carriers for storing video recordings. A 128 GB SSD is installed, along with 32 GB of eMMC.

Like the Special Edition, the UDM Pro Max also has 8 GB of RAM. Bluetooth is available for management as well as a small 1.3-inch touchscreen for status information, which is typical for Ubiquiti. However, the Etherlighting of the switch series is not supported.

The data throughput remains identical at 10 GBit/s, but Ubiquiti has increased the IDS/IPS throughput from 3.5 to 5 GBit/s. Eight GbE RJ45 ports are on board for network connections, and there is also a 2.5GbE connection via RJ45. Two SFP+ slots are provided to accommodate 10GbE transceivers or corresponding short cables (DAC, Direct Attach Cable). 

The UDM Pro Max also offers an option for High Availability, which Ubiquiti calls 'Shadow Mode', but this is yet to come and requires two UDM Pro Max. The device is also compatible with the power backup system and therefore offers a second port for the power supply.

According to Ubiquiti, the UDM Pro Max is now available for order at a price of $599.99.
