The big Tesla FSD 12.4 update would start rolling out next week, and with it comes a big change in alertness checks. Tesla is also now working on boutique autonomous driving scenarios for the next FSD updates.

According to Elon Musk, Tesla is done with the big FSD v12.4 update and will start rolling it out next week.

One of the most welcome features it will bring is a "fix" for the dreaded steering wheel nag that urges the driver to nudge the wheel every so often to indicate presence in a rather annoying manner.

Tesla, however, is now working towards the even bigger FSD 12.6 update, where it deals with rare but important situations that a self-driving car could find itself in.

Tesla is exploring all possible angles and Elon Musk gave the example of encountering an obstruction on a narrow street that a Tesla car would then reverse out of all on its own, then continue on a recalculated route.

What's more, before the August 8 unveiling of a "purpose built" Robotaxi and a CyberCab service with its existing cars, Tesla is already exploring ways to make vehicles on FSD talk to each other in real time, and learn from the collective experience.

"That closure," tips Musk, "also needs to be communicated to the rest of the fleet, so you don’t get a whole bunch of Teslas stuck down a road."

This type of hive mind will be indispensable if and when Tesla launches its autonomous Robotaxi fleet and CyberCab service for current owners on public roads.

Still, the many issues with current FSD regulation are still in flux and Tesla is sitting on an expanded NHTSA investigation into its Autopilot recall.

The recall actually increased the amount of nagging and warnings by the of driver-assist service, so it's not out of the question that the FSD 12.4 steering wheel nag "fix" would come in the form of a cabin cam surveillance instead.
