Sonos is expanding its portfolio with the new 203 mm in-ceiling speakers. The speakers are larger than the previous 6-inch model and, according to the manufacturer, offer natural, room-filling sound and easy installation.
Sonos is known for its range of streaming speakers. Its portfolio includes various models for stationary use, such as the Sonos Era 300 or the Sonos Beam soundbar, as well as various portable models such as the Sonos Move 2. Sonos has also been offering inbuilt speakers from the Sonos Architectural range for some time now, which has now been expanded to include a new model.
Previously, Sonos' range included an in-wall speaker as well as a 152 mm or 6-inch in-ceiling speaker. Sonos has now added a new and larger model, the 203 mm In-Ceiling Speaker with an 8-inch diagonal, which the manufacturer recently unveiled in a press release.
The new in-ceiling speaker is already on offer on the company's webstore for $999, meaning that the larger 8-inch model costs $340 more than the smaller 6-inch model. In addition, a bundle with the Sonos Amp is also on offer at a cheaper overall price. This enables, among other things, Trueplay tuning in the Sonos app for room-tailored sound.
The new Sonos 203 mm in-ceiling speakers are equipped with a 203 mm woofer and a 30 mm tweeter. Sonos promises natural, room-filling sound and a frequency range of 41 Hz to 20 kHz (±3 dB). In contrast to the classic Sonos speakers, the built-in model is of course more complex to install, but is still reportedly easy to install. It can be used in suspended ceilings, for example. The installation depth is 135 mm.
I have been fascinated by technology for around 25 years – especially technology that makes life easier rather than more complicated. Mobile devices such as laptops, smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches are particularly close to my heart as is the booming subject of smart homes. I have been working in these areas for several years now as a news and reviews editor. I have been active with various websites, including the smart home blogs homee, Nuki, and siio, as well as tech portals such as Giga and TechRadar. I have been writing news and laptop reviews for Notebookcheck since 2020.

Growing up in regional Australia, I first became acquainted with computers in my early teens after a broken leg from a football (soccer) match temporarily condemned me to a predominately indoor lifestyle. Soon afterwards I was building my own systems. Now I live in Germany, having moved here in 2014, where I study philosophy and anthropology. I am particularly fascinated by how computer technology has fundamentally and dramatically reshaped human culture, and how it continues to do so.
