Ranking: Best 17-inch work laptops reviewed by Notebookcheck
Work laptops with a large 17-inch screen are ideal for users who prefer a laptop over a desktop PC due to space constraints. They provide enough power for daily tasks like web browsing, office applications, and video streaming while remaining portable enough for use around the home or office. A 17-inch display can eliminate the need for an external monitor while still allowing some mobility.
Price is a key factor in this category, with most models capped at around 1,000 dollars/euros. The following top list includes only notebooks that we have tested in detail. Each review is linked for in-depth information on every device.

Note: We transitioned to a new rating system in June 2024. In the updated v8 rating, certain criteria were adjusted to reflect current hardware developments, new factors were introduced, and some measurement techniques were modified. As a result, v8 ratings are slightly lower than v7 ratings and are not directly comparable to previous versions. For this reason, we currently provide two tables: one listing the best devices according to the v7 rating system and another for the v8 system. More details on the v8 rating system can be found here.

Editorial comment
The line between multimedia and office use is increasingly blurred in this segment. Alongside laptops with integrated or entry-level graphics, budget gaming laptops with up to a GeForce RTX 3060 or RTX 4050 are also common. These affordable gaming models are often excellent for work, offering solid input devices, sturdy cases, and powerful hardware. Many also include performance profiles for quieter operation when high performance isn't needed.
The 17-inch category is shrinking, especially for non-gaming models, leaving fewer pure office notebooks, many of which are aging.
Laptops with integrated or entry-level GPUs easily handle media playback, light image and video editing, and standard office tasks like Word, Excel, and web browsing. If gaming is a priority, consider models with a GeForce RTX 3050 (Ti), RTX 3060, Radeon RX 6600M, RTX 4050, or higher. For more options, check out our best budget gaming laptops list.
1st place - LG Gram 17 (2024)
Weighing just 1.35 kg, the LG Gram 17 (2024) secures second place in our top list. This 17-inch notebook features a matte 16:10 QHD display with 97% DCI-P3 coverage and a brightness of 387 cd/m². Despite its large dimensions (380 x 262 mm), the incredibly low weight feels almost surreal. Instead of plastic, LG uses a lightweight magnesium construction.
Powered by a Meteor Lake processor, the Gram 17 delivers solid multi-core performance despite limited cooling. With a battery life exceeding 15 hours, it is an excellent mobile companion.
The keyboard remains impressive, and noise emissions have improved compared to its predecessor.
However, there are some drawbacks, including poor maintenance options and suboptimal chassis rigidity due to its ultra-lightweight design.
The Intel Core Ultra 7 155H variant with 16 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD is currently 1,579 euros.
2nd place - Tulpar T7 V20.6
With a GeForce GeForce RTX 4060 and an Intel Core i7-13700H, the Tulpar T7 V20.6 delivers outstanding performance for an office-class laptop. Despite its 30 mm thickness, it remains quiet and cool under low loads, features a comfortable keyboard with long key travel, and includes a 350 cd/m² bright Full HD IPS display with high contrast, full sRGB coverage, short pixel response times, and a 144 Hz refresh rate.
It also offers HDMI 2.1 (4K @ 60Hz) and an SD card reader, though the latter is slow and lacks Thunderbolt. The 1 TB SSD and 16 GB RAM are easily expandable, and the manufacturer provides free annual maintenance for the device.
The Tulpar T7 V20.6 is an understated gaming laptop that blends seamlessly into an office environment while offering strong performance. However, its battery life and touchpad could be better.
As of this writing, the T7 V20.6 is available on Amazon Germany for 1,029 euros.
3rd place - Asus TUF Gaming A17 FA707XI
Our test model of the Asus TUF Gaming A17 features a powerful Ryzen 9 7940HS and an RTX 4070, though a more affordable version with a Ryzen 7 7735HS and an RTX 4050 should be sufficient for most users. The case, reinforced with a metal plate in the lid, is sturdy, and USB4 support is included. It also offers a 144 Hz refresh rate and a long 9-hour battery life.
The Asus TUF Gaming A17 provides excellent maintenance options and strong performance, but its drawbacks include low display brightness and some minor build quality issues.
The touchpad is large with good feedback, but color space coverage and accuracy are mediocre, and the response times of the matte Full HD display are slow. The Realtek WLAN chip is relatively slow, and there is no card reader. While case temperatures remain low, the fans can get quite loud under full load.
For those who can overlook these downsides, the Asus TUF Gaming A17 with an AMD Ryzen 5 and RTX 4060 is currently available at Galaxus for 1,154 euros.
4th place - HP Omen 17 (2024)
Another gaming laptop, the HP Omen 17joins our top list this quarter - however, the design is also suitable as an office computer and the emissions are also pleasingly low. Models under 1,000 euros come with a fast AMD Ryzen 5 8645HS Six-core processor and a fairly powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 or 'even RTX 4060. The RAM can also be upgraded and the Full HD display comes with 144 Hz, 100% sRGB and is sufficiently bright at 300 cd/m².
The battery life of more than 9 hours is absolutely fine, but the keyboard offers a little less feedback and the ports are a little sparse.
The HP Omen 17 is an excellent office laptop and offers many advantages, such as entry-level gaming.
The offer of 899 euros with an RTX 4050 at Otto is unfortunately now sold out, while offers with an RTX 4060 currently start at 1,049 euros.
5th place - HP Envy 17 (2024)
An office-multimedia hybrid in the 17-inch class, the HP Envy 17 is closely related to the HP 17 and HP 470. Its sturdy aluminum case houses a full-size SD card reader, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, three USB-A ports, and HDMI, though it lacks an Ethernet port. The base model includes a Full HD IPS panel with 100% sRGB coverage and 290 cd/m² brightness. Powered by the Core Ultra 7 155U, it delivers solid office performance comparable to its predecessor, depending on the selected cooling mode.
The HP Envy 17 is a 17-inch office notebook with multimedia ambitions, featuring a great keyboard, impressive speakers, long battery life, and a responsive touch display—though it is quite reflective.
Our test unit featured a GeForce RTX 3050, leading to higher noise levels (up to 48 dB(A)) and case temperatures exceeding 50 °C during gaming. The battery has grown from 56 Wh to 86 Wh, significantly improving runtime to over 12 hours. Additionally, the RAM is now upgradeable instead of soldered.
The HP Envy 17 is currently available without a dGPU, featuring a Core Ultra 5 125H, Intel Arc 8 iGPU, 16 GB RAM, and a Full HD touchscreen for 934 euros.
6th place - MSI Katana A17 AI (2025)
The Katana A17 AI from MSI comes with an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS and RTX 4060 graphics. The low battery life of just 4 hours is a disadvantage. However, the performance is at a high level and the emissions are low. The RAM and SSD memory can be expanded and the range of connections is decent.
However, the biggest drawback is the FullHD display with a brightness of only around 235 cd/m², which is only suitable for indoor use - but even the sRGB color space is not even remotely covered - only the refresh rate of 144 Hz is decent.
MSI's Katana A17 AI offers rock-solid features, but you'll have to settle for standard fare when it comes to the display.
The price of the MSI Katana A17 AI (2025) has risen from 999 to 1,099 euros on Amazon, but you can still get a version for under 1,000 euros at Saturn.
7th place - Asus VivoBook 18
While not a 17-incher per se, the model sports a large 18.4-inch screen in 16:10 format. Most 18-inch laptops available as of May 2025 are gaming monsters, meaning Asus VivoBook 18 may be the only affordable office notebook with a display this big.
The set of features offered is actually quite good. Its fast 144 Hz screen delivers full sRGB coverage, very narrow display bezels, a usable brightness of 324 cd/m² and quick response times. However, the resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels may seem a little low to some.
The built-in AMD Ryzen 7 260 offers extremely good performance that goes far beyond office tasks, while the integrated Radeon 780M is suitable for some gaming at low to medium detail settings. In standard performance mode, we measured maximum noise emissions of 40 dB(A) which is acceptable. When idling, there is a constant, quiet whispering that could probably have been done without. Its battery life is very good at 11 hours.
With the VivoBook 18, Asus is so far the only manufacturer to offer an affordable 18-inch notebook under 1,000 euros with a convincing display and performance - but you have to make do without expandable RAM and USB 4.
In Germany, you currently have to pay 809 euros for the Asus VivoBook 18 (an SKU with soldered 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD). Notebooksbilliger is one of the options.
8th place - Medion S20
The Medion S20 brings a breath of fresh air to our top list of 17-inch office notebooks. With a 60 Hz refresh rate and a 16:9 matte Full HD IPS display, it clearly targets the lower mid-range office segment.
The case is made of aluminum and magnesium, but Thunderbolt 4 and an SD card reader are missing. However, it offers two slots each for RAM and mass storage expansion, and supports fast charging.
Medion's 2.1 kg, 20 mm thin 17-incher delivers solid performance with an Intel Core Ultra 7 and a 340 cd/m² bright display covering 95% sRGB, though its emissions are not always well-controlled.
The Medion S20 with a Core Ultra 5, 1 TB SSD, and 16 GB RAM is currently available at Aldi DE for 899 euros.
9th place - Lenovo V17 G4
A classic office notebook for less than 500 euros - the Lenovo V17 G4 shines with a very good keyboard, easy maintenance and upgrade options as well as moderate emissions. The battery life of around 7.5 hours is also impressive - which is quite efficient, especially considering the small 45 Wh battery - and the display impresses with 300 cd/m² brightness and 90 percent sRGB in the price range.
Disadvantages are the lack of keyboard illumination and the rather weak iGPU. There is a free slot for RAM expansion. The full-size SD card reader is also welcome, but HDMI is only used in the outdated version 1.4b. However, the built-in Intel U300 processor is designed for pure office use and is therefore no faster than an 11th generation Intel processor, e.g. comparable to a Core i7-1185G7 or Core i3-1315U.
The Lenovo V17 G4, which delivers everything you need for pure office use but has no reserves, is a good value.
If you upgrade the RAM yourself, the V17 G4 alone will set you back 379 euros.
10th place - Acer Aspire 17 (2024)
The Acer Aspire 17 (2024) made it into our top list mainly due to the lack of modern competition in the 17-inch office segment. Its FHD IPS display falls short with just 250 cd/m² brightness and 65% sRGB coverage, which is disappointing for a laptop priced at 1,000 euros.
The keyboard is subpar, fan control is poorly implemented, and the speakers are mediocre. The built-in RTX 2050 struggles to outperform modern integrated graphics, making its inclusion questionable.
The Acer Aspire 17 (2024) is currently not a great choice, as it fails to deliver on key aspects expected from an office laptop.
While it does offer expandable RAM, Thunderbolt 4, and low case temperatures, better alternatives exist—even at a third of the price. Retailers are currently listing it for 999 euros.
