The AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT with 16 GB of VRAM and an MSRP of $499 is attracting a lot of user attention according to the Q1 2024 sales figures of German retailer Mindfactory compiled by 3DCenter (via TechEpiphany). The GPU seemingly dominated all the other offerings from AMD and NVIDIA as the retailer managed to sell close to 7,000 RX 7800 XT units.

AMD reportedly dominated the GPU sales in Q1 2024 and managed to claw market share away from NVIDIA according to 3DCenter’s latest GPU sales report. The publication compiled the Mindfactory GPU sales data provided by TechEpiphany and found out that Radeon cards made up 53.9% of all boards sold on Mindfactory in Q1 2024 vs 45% for NVIDIA and a meager 1.1% for Intel.

Before we proceed further, it is important to remember that the boards discussed here are from a single German retailer and, therefore, don’t represent the entirety of the German market, much less the global landscape.

AMD enjoying the bulk of GPU sales is a role reversal from Q1 2023 where NVIDIA commanded a 52.6% share in total sales vs Team Red’s 47%. As a whole, AMD sold a combined 24,510 pieces while NVIDIA moved 20,420 units. However, the overall sales were down 2,320 units in Q1’24 vs Q1’23.

RX 7800 XT outsells the competition

Looking at individual cards, the RX 7800 XT was the top-selling card on Mindfactory in Q1 with 6.975 units followed by the RTX 4060 Ti with 3,575 units. As a comparison, the retailer sold 2,510 RTX 4070 and 3,250 RTX 4070 SUPER cards, putting the RX 7800 XT ahead of the former by an almost 3-to-1 margin.

The RX 7800 XT selling more than the RTX 4070 makes sense if we look at it from a value perspective. The Radeon GPU not only offers comparable gaming performance but also brings 4 GB more VRAM. VRAM capacity is becoming an increasingly important factor for GPU purchases as modern games continue to drive up the requirement.

Perhaps most importantly, the RX 7800 XT costs noticeably less than the RTX 4070. For instance, the cheapest RX 7800 XT on Amazon is currently retailing for $499 while the RTX 4070 is going for $539.

Moving on, other big sellers include the RX 7900 XT (3,295), RX 7900 XTX (2,885), and RTX 4070 Ti SUPER (2,655).

Finally, we’ll have to wait and see if AMD can keep this lead moving forward as NVIDIA is supposedly shaking things up with the next-generation RTX 50 cards later this year.
