Sonos’ foray into the headphone category has been rumoured for some time, and now, images of its upcoming wireless headphone – the Sonos Ace – have leaked via an authorised dealer’s website, along with the retail price of around $430. Also discovered from the same source is a photo of the Roam 2 portable speaker, expected to be launched soon.

As reported previously, Sonos, known for its highly reviewed wireless speakers and soundbars, has been working on launching its first headphones. Now, thanks to a leak, we finally have an official name – the Sonos Ace – and a glimpse of what they’ll look like. The images were leaked via an authorised Sonos parts dealer's website, while further confirmation of the name has come from Sonos’ own website, where a mention of it was discovered.

The design appears to be something between the Apple Airpods Max and the Sony WH-1000XM5, with pebble-like, rounded earcups attached to a well-padded headband via slim metal stems. The earcups turn sideways, allowing the headphones to be folded flat into the included case, but not inwards, like the Audio Technica ATH-Mx50BT2 or the Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones.

Also visible on one of the earcups is a three-position slider switch, possibly for switching between noise-cancelling and transparency modes, along with a push button, which could activate a voice assistant or provide basic playback controls.

The device seen in the leaked images is fully black, but based on the rest of Sonos’ catalog, it’s safe to say that a white version will also be available. We also know that the earpads will be replaceable, since the source website has a listing for replacement “ear cushions” for the Ace.

Another image shows what you get in the box apart from the headphone itself: a clamshell-style case, a USB-C charging cable, a 3.5 mm to USB-C cable and a mysterious oval object that Redditors have speculated is a separate case for the cables.

The Sonos Ace will not come cheap. The price leaked alongside the images is €403.58 or around $430, while a prior report from Bloomberg had put it at $450. At that price, customers will expect premium build and sound quality and seamless wireless connectivity (which Sonos has a track record of delivering), as well as noise-cancelling performance (which is a new area for the company).

Finally, the leak has confirms another product that's been rumoured to arrive soon, the Roam 2, a successor to Sonos’ popular Roam portable speaker, but the one leaked image reveals practically nothing new, thus limiting our ability to speculate on what to expect.
