No ThinkPad P16 G3 this year? Lenovo updates existing ThinkPad P16 G2 workstation with 14th Gen CPUs
The Lenovo ThinkPad P series is the most powerful ThinkPad series - and it is outdated at the moment, as ThinkPad P1 Gen 6 and ThinkPad P16 Gen 2 both still use last gen Raptor Lake CPUs.
At least in the case of the bigger and thicker ThinkPad P16 G2, it seems like that is about to change, as Lenovo's PSREF specsheet database lists a new CPU option for this powerful Lenovo laptop. In addition to all the existing Raptor Lake HX CPUs for this ThinkPad laptop, the specifications now also include the Intel Core i7-14700HX, a 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh chip.
But Lenovo adding the newer processors to the old model has some interesting implications: If the ThinkPad P16 Gen 2 has Raptor Lake Refresh, then there is no reason to release a new Lenovo ThinkPad P16 G3 - currently, such a model would not include anything new components wise, as there are currently no newer GPUs. With the HX CPUs used in the ThinkPad P16 Gen 2, it looks like that product will receive a prolonged life cycle, extending it until 2025 most likely.
