LG previews availability expansion for next-gen 240/480Hz Dual Mode gaming monitor type
LG's last experimental gaming monitor could switch between being flat or curved - however, the next is hyped to do so between 240Hz and 480Hz. The Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) technology developed to make this happen has heretofore been exclusive to the ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDP and LG's own UltraGear OLED 32GS95UE (listed here on Amazon) to date.
However, the South Korean giant has indicated that it will be made in the quantities necessary to distribute it to more OEMs as of this month (April 2024). The potentially advanced DFR feature has some trade-offs, however, in that the maximum possible UHD resolution drops back to FHD when it switches to its high refresh rate mode.
In addition, the resulting display will be much smaller than the OLED Flex, as the inaugural Switchable Refresh Rate and Resolution display panel will still only be manufactured in a single size of 31.5 inches.
In addition, it is slated to integrate the Thin Actuator Sound technology that, while an interesting way of having a screen emit its own sound independent of any external speakers in theory, has rarely been received well in practice.
Nevertheless, LG touts the upcoming OLED model as the ideal all-in-one monitor that can work as well for the user's fast-paced FPS pursuits as it will for rich, immersive content consumption.
To that end, it is also backed to boast META Technology 2.0, LG's latest take on the Micro Lens Array (MLA) technique to maximize light emission from organic diodes.
