Honor announces Android 14 beta program for Magic V2 foldable smartphone
The Honor Magic V2 still holds the title of being the thinnest foldable around at 9.9 mm for its vegan leather variant. The handset is no longer the lightest though, with the Vivo X Fold3 undercutting it by 12 g. Incidentally, while it took Honor took the best part of six months to release the Magic V2 outside China, global models still started shipping in early 2024 with Android 13.
By contrast, competitors like the OnePlus Open (curr. $1,499.99 on Amazon) have moved onto Android 14. Officially, Honor will continue upgrading the Magic V2 until Android 18. In saying that, the current state of updates that Honor has provided so far is not a good sign for its ongoing software support. So far, the Magic V2 has received two updates globally, the last of which Honor delivered in early March as MagicOS 7.20.132.
In a similar vein, Honor has only just selected beta testers for its Android 14 beta program. In an Honor Club post, a member of the Honor Community team suggests that Magic V2 owners should have now received confirmation of whether their beta program application was successful. However, there have been multiple reports of Honor already delivering Android 14 to some Magic V2 units as MagicOS 8.0.0.71, even those not enrolled on its beta program. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen when MagicOS 8 will reach stable status for the Magic V2, nor what features it will bring to Honor's first global foldable.
