One of two cameras that GoPro has announced today, the GoPro Max replaces the GoPro Fusion 360 as the company's premier 360° action camera. The GoPro Max features 16.6 MP 360° and 5.5 MP sensors and costs US$499.99. GoPro is offering a complimentary 64 GB SanDisk Extreme microSD card with pre-orders, which will ship on October 15.

Launching alongside the GoPro Hero 8 Black, the GoPro Max replaces the GoPro Fusion 360 as the company's 360° action camera. The GoPro Max costs US$499.99, US$100 more than the GoPro Hero 8 Black, and can record up to 1440p at 60 FPS.

GoPro has equipped the camera with a 16.6 MP 360° camera and a 5.5 MP sensor, making it suitable for more than just 360° videos. The GoPro Max can take a 270° PowerPano ultra-wide angle shot at 6.2 MP too, along with a spherical video at 5.6 K and 30 FPS.

The GoPro Max also supports "Max" versions of GoPro's HyperSmooth and TimeWarp technologies, while it can shoot 2x slow-motion videos too. GoPro promises that the GoPro Max is waterproof for up to 5 metres, which is half the depth to which the Hero 8 Black can be submerged.

The new 360° action camera has fold-out mounts like the Hero 8 Black, which GoPro calls Folding Fingers, for use with existing accessories. However, it does not support the Mods that we have covered in our accompanying Hero 8 Black article. The company does sell GoPro Max replacement parts like Lens Caps and a chassis Door too.

The GoPro Max, like the Hero 8 Black, is based on the GP1 processor and will start shipping on October 15. The action camera costs US$499.99, while pre-orders come with a 64 GB SanDisk Extreme microSD card.
