The Garmin Connect app for iOS and Android is being updated to version 5.0. The new software brings a refreshed design for the home screen, with a range of customizable sections like “Today’s Activity” and “In Focus”. However, the reception from smartwatch users has been mixed.

Garmin has released the Garmin Connect app version 5.0. The new look for the home screen is available for iOS and Android users and follows a beta testing program with a select user group, launched at the start of the year. Garmin suggests that it has tried to simplify the design and allow a greater degree of personalization.

For example, you can customize various sections of the home screen. These include a “Today’s Activity” element showing your completed activities and any upcoming workouts, and “In Focus” and “At a Glance” for health and fitness data; up to eight health metric widgets can be added to the latter. There are also segments that provide information on your Events, Training Plans, and Challenges.

Reviews of the new version of Garmin Connect have been mixed so far. On Reddit, while some Garmin smartwatch owners have said that they like the changes, other users have complained about the large size of the graphs, meaning less data is viewable. Another customer said they felt that options for the “In Focus” section were limited. Plus, a Fenix 6X smartwatch user indicated they were having problems connecting their wearable after the update; it is unclear whether this is a widespread problem. If you want to try the new homepage layout, you can download the Garmin Connect app version 5.0 at the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
