The new compact Starlink Mini dish with integrated Wi-Fi router has been put to a satellite Internet speed test from a Cybertruck's bed.

Armed with cute puppies all around him, SpaceX's VP of Starlink Engineering set out to set up a fresh out-of-the-box Starlink Mini dish, and test its download speeds for the first time.

Moreover, the video of the initial Starlink Mini setup and speed test hailed from a Cybertruck pickup's tailgate, with the Mini dish perched there, and powered by the Cybertruck's bed outlets.

The Starlink Mini setup took 5 minutes, just as Elon Musk advised a few days back. Elon, however, posted a screenshot with a 100 Mbps download speed, while Starlink's Michael Nicolls now managed to hit 180 Mbps.

Previously, he showed a picture of the Starlink Mini dish set on a porch table next to his puppy, and that speed test returned 124 Mbps download speeds from Starlink Mini to Internet, and 214 Mbps direct connection from the dish to the device.

In Elon Musk's Starlink Mini speed test, the ping was very low 23ms, but the screenshots of Michael Nicholls here don't show the Mini dish connection's latency.

The VP of Starlink Engineering, however, did relay that SpaceX is ramping up production of the Starlink Mini Kit, and it will be available in international markets soon. He also confirmed that the Mini's built-in router has a bypass mode.

For now, SpaceX is running a limited trial for existing Starlink subscribers, who can get a Mini Kit for $599 to test out on top of their existing residential plan. That's actually more expensive than Best Buy's Starlink Standard Kit that currently goes at $100 off.

The limited trial participants can take advantage of an exclusive $30/month Mini Roam plan that, however, only includes 50 GB of data, with $1 for each additional GB.

When the compact Mini dish gets released to the public, both in the US and abroad, its price will likely be much lower, with Elon Musk hinting at a possible $299 Starlink Mini price tag.
