Cubot KingKong X: New rugged smartphone comes with 5G and secondary touch display

Although Cubot also offers conventional smartphones and tablets, its focus is on rugged smartphones. The KingKong X, which has just been unveiled, is one such example. The smartphone is IP68 certified and thus protected against damage from dust or water, and also has MIL-STD-810H certification, providing protection against drops.  

The MediaTek Dimensity 7050, a mid-range SoC introduced in 2023, is installed. This offers adequate performance in many cases and should provide more than sufficient performance in everyday use. The chip also comes with a 5G modem. The RAM is generously sized at 16 GB, while the internal storage amounts to either 256 or 512 GB. This is UFS 3.1 storage, which can be expanded using a memory card. Android 14 and therefore an up-to-date operating system is installed. Potential buyers should be aware that the update supply from small manufacturers is not always reliable, and buyers should not expect major updates in particular.

The display is said to have a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The battery has a capacity of 10,200 mAh. A second display can be found on the back, which can process touch inputs, thus supporting call answering and music control, for example. A main camera with a resolution of 100 MP is installed. NFC is supported, as is WiFi 6.

Cubot has not yet announced a price, but the launch is scheduled for the end of July.
