Chatreey TK12-F: New mini PC offers Core i7 power in passively cooled housing and many ports
Chatreey now has a new mini PC on offer, the TK12-F, which is passively cooled. This has several advantages: for example, the system is completely silent, especially without a classic magnetic hard drive and the absence of coil whine. The passive cooling can also be seen in the model, as cooling fins are installed. Dust is unlikely to penetrate the housing.
The mini PC is available with an Intel Core i5-1235U or an Intel Core i7-1255U. Although not cutting-edge processors, they are still very powerful and should not only be adequate for office applications. However, the extent to which the passive cooling can keep the processors cool under prolonged full load is questionable. Hence, it is not really a PC system for video gamers, more so in view of the lack of a dedicated graphics card. An M.2 SSD is provided as the primary mass storage device, but an additional SSD or classic hard disk in 2.5-inch format can also be installed.
According to the manufacturer, the simultaneous use of up to three monitors is supported. These can be run at high resolution via USB-C, DisplayPort and HDMI. Thunderbolt 4 is also on board. The mini PC can be supplied with power via USB-C, so a round plug and a special power supply unit are not required. Two Gigabit Ethernet ports are available, along with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0.
The model is available for direct import and as a barebone at a price of just over $300. Import fees are already included in the price, but there is also a delivery fee. Lastly, prospective buyers should also be aware that it may be difficult to enforce warranty rights in the case of a return.
