The base configuration of the latest 13” Macbook Air with the M3 chip is currently at its lowest price yet on Amazon, with a 10% discount, as is the previous generation with the M2 chip, with a 15% discount. The higher configurations for both versions are also available at slightly lower discounts, making this a good time to buy Apple’s cheapest yet highly reviewed laptops.

Apple’s Macbook Air with the M series chips have been consistently proven to be excellent do-it-all machines for everyday use. Now, the base models of the newly launched Macbook Air 13” M3 (read our review here) as well as the previous generation Macbook Air M2 (reviewed here) are at their lowest price yet on Amazon, thanks to some exciting discounts.

While the 13" Macbook Air M3 with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage is retailing for $989 (10% off the original $1,099) for the first time, the Macbook Air M2 with the same specs is available for an extremely attractive $849 (or 15% off) as part of a deal that first appeared earlier this month. There are currently also smaller discounts on some of the higher configurations: The 13” Macbook Air M3 with the 512 GB SSD is retailing for $1,199 (8% off) and the equivalent M2 model for $1,049 (13% off).

As covered in our review, the newer M3 version offers a few upgrades over the M2 version that might be worth the extra $140. On the design front, everything remains the same, except for a new anti-fingerprint coating on the Midnight Blue colour that should help reduce smudges on the body. More significantly, the newer version now supports two external displays (with the lid closed) instead of just one.

The addition of WiFi 6E support also increases the maximum speeds to twice that of the older model, while making the machine more future-proof. On the processing side, the newer 3 nm M3 SoC has 20% higher performance than the M2 in multi-core and single-core tests, despite battery runtime remaining the same or even marginally longer than with the M2.

That said, the M2 version continues to remain an excellent laptop for most everyday tasks, and depending on one’s requirements, might represent better value than its successor. Either way, the current discounts are a great opportunity for someone looking to buy their first Macbook or upgrade from an older model.
