Anbernic RG Cube: New 1:1 retro gaming handheld revealed to take on Powkiddy RGB30 and ZPG A1 Unicorn
Anbernic has released plenty of retro gaming handhelds of late. Most recently, the company launched the RG28XX, a 2.8-inch option that rivals the Miyoo Mini A30 and MagicX XU Mini M. Rather than resting on its laurels, Anbernic has since officially revealed the RG35XX SP, a 3.5-inch device that mimics the design of the Game Boy Advance SP.
Additionally, it seems that the company has another form factor in the pipeline, too. Specifically, it appears that Anbernic is working towards delivering a Powkiddy RGB30 and ZPG A1 Unicorn competitor. According to Retro Handhelds, Anbernic's alternative will have a 1:1 aspect ratio display just like the RGB30 and A1 Unicorn. For reference, Powkiddy also sells another 1:1 gaming handheld by way of the RGB20SX (curr. $139.99 on Amazon).
However, the RGB20SX is much larger than the RGB30 and A1 Unicorn, as well as Anbernic's 'RG Cube'. Unfortunately, we have minimal footage of the RG Cube so far, which we have embedded below. Still, the image outlines that the RG Cube has relatively even display bezels, plus three banks of buttons along its left and right-hand sides.
Assuming that the RG Cube mirrors the button layout of the RGB30 and A1 Unicorn, then it will likely contain two joysticks, unlike the RG28XX. Allegedly, Anbernic has equipped the RG Cube with the Unisoc T820, the same chipset it uses in the RG556. As a result, the RG Cube could be relatively powerful, at least when it comes to 1:1 retro gaming handhelds.
