Samsung is preparing to launch the successor of its Galaxy Watch 6 series. However, the new Watch 7 series might not be the only new smartwatches, as there have been a good number of rumors about the company releasing an affordable wearable called Galaxy Watch FE.
The recent leak, which happens to come from Samsung itself, has somewhat confirmed these reports. A support page for an unreleased Galaxy Watch with the model number RM-R861 has gone live on the company’s Latin America and UK websites. This is the same model that was previously spotted on FCC and TRDA.
Interestingly, this model number matches the smartwatches from the Watch 4 series, which ended with R860. This has made many speculate that it could be called the Galaxy Watch 4 (2024). Yes, it does seem a bit weird to launch a new product that will be in a three-year-old series, but for Samsung, this isn’t an unusual thing.
For example, the company first released the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite in 2020, then launched a refreshed model with the same name in 2022, and then again in 2024 (curr. $249.99 on Amazon). But if Samsung doesn’t go through this route, it could possibly be called Galaxy Watch FE, just like what a couple of rumors are already suggesting.
However, given that the model number matches with the three-year-old wearable series, it could possibly be a rebranded Galaxy Watch 4 but with the latest Wear OS. Hopefully, we will get proper details on this alleged affordable smartwatch before the upcoming Unpacked event, which is expected on July 10.
