Affordable Oppo phones get Samsung Galaxy AI-like photo editing tool
Google and Samsung made a big AI push, with the latter bringing Galaxy AI with the S24 series and then eventually rolling it to last-gen devices (S23 FE curr. $550 on Amazon). One of the handy features that the two companies introduced with this push is generative photo editing. With it, you can make a lot of different edits to photos without needing a third-party app. But it seems that you don't really need an expensive phone for them.
Oppo has rolled out AI Eraser for its Reno 11 series of smartphones, all of which cost way less than Google's and Samsung's flagships. Like Galaxy AI generative photo editing on Samsung devices and Magic Editor on Google phones, Oppo's native implementation on affordable phones utilizes AI.
AI Eraser on Oppo phones lets you remove and move unwanted objects from images to get the perfect shot. The company says that the tool can identify objects that are from 120 plus categories. That includes buildings, people, pets, and flowers. You also get the ability to generate content to fill spaces.
It's possible to get similar edits on photos with third-party apps such as Adobe Photoshop on compatible phones. However, with AI Eraser, affordable Oppo phones can perform complex photo-editing tasks natively, which is more convenient for everyday users. Also, given the price range of the Reno 11 smartphones (11F starts at roughly $305 in some markets, the company has just made native AI-powered photo editing features more accessible.
