AYANEO has finally provided more details about the long-awaited Pocket DMG. Full of surprises, the Pocket DMG will go toe-to-toe with the best Android gaming handhelds around thanks to a flagship chipset. The Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 will be joined by an OLED display too, as well as a strange controller layout.

AYANEO has finally confirmed specifications about the Pocket DMG, having first initially teased the device in November 2023. For context, the company only showed a full length picture of the Pocket DMG earlier this week. As expected, the Pocket DMG is a vertical handheld in the style of other retro gaming handhelds like the Analogue Pocket and the Anbernic RG405V (curr. $184.99 on Amazon), to name but a few.

However, the Pocket DMG contains considerably more powerful hardware than many of its peers. With that being said, AYANEO has made several unusual design decisions, too. On the one hand, AYANEO has equipped the Pocket DMG with a 3.92-inch OLED display that outputs at 1,240 x 1,080 pixels with a 419 PPI. In other words, the Pocket DMG could have one of the most vibrant displays of any vertical retro gaming handheld announced to date.

Surprisingly, AYANEO has equipped the device with the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2, the same Qualcomm chipset that powers the Pocket S. As such, the Pocket DMG should be powerful enough to emulate pretty much anything that one could throw at it. On the other hand, AYANEO has included just one joystick, which rather limits the Pocket DMG's usage with more modern systems.

To compensate, the company has included a touchpad area that the joystick sits within. While AYANEO reports that the touchpad 'may be more enjoyable than the right joystick', we would recommend waiting for independent videos to arrive before passing judgement. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen when AYANEO will release the Pocket DMG; the company did not offer any indication in its press release when this will occur.
